Revision at the Lichtenhainer Mountain Railway – Nordhäuser Building Inspection Institute Using ROPESYS Rope Inspection Device
The historic Lichtenhainer Mountain Railway in Thuringia, a technical masterpiece over 100 years old, blends the charm of its original preserved wagons with state-of-the-art safety technology. To ensure the operational safety of this unique railway, regular revision inspections are conducted. In a segment from the MDR Thüringen Journal, currently available on the ARD Mediathek, it is impressively shown how experts from the Nordhäuser Building Inspection Institute conduct these inspections.
First, the experts conduct a thorough visual inspection of the lift rope. They look for visible changes such as cracks, corrosion, or other irregularities that could compromise operational safety. This inspection is supplemented by a tapping test, which also provides insight into potential damage.
However, the true precision is demonstrated with the use of a state-of-the-art magnetic rope inspection device from ROPESYS. With this specially developed device, the rope is magnetically scanned in three dimensions. Changes in the magnetic field are captured and analyzed on a computer. Even the smallest deviations, which could indicate internal damage or weaknesses, are made visible. This technology allows for a highly precise assessment of the rope’s condition and is a crucial factor for safety.
Our ROPESYS rope inspection devices are used worldwide, whether for cable cars, bridges, or shaft systems, and stand for the highest reliability and precision.
